Diversity, Equality and Inclusion
A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is important to all in the NCS community . As a multi-ethnic school, the benefits of our work in this area bring with it a brighter future for each individual, a thriving community, and an enriched society. We are proud of the diverse nature of our pupils and staff.
We want all our pupils to feel that they are an important part of our School community and we work hard to ensure that everyone feels safe and supported while they are with us, regardless of their ethnicity, religious beliefs, economic background, gender, sexuality or ability. Our commitment to equality of experience is also woven into our School Values which underpin every aspect of NCS life: Hard work, Fairness and Honesty. We achieve this through:
Regular Training
Staff, student and governor training about diversity and inclusion and how to tackle them. From “banter” to overtly discriminatory things we may hear and see on social media, all within our community will be aware of how to deal sensibly with any situations that may occur.
Recognising and Celebrating Diversity
We aim to include parents and students in celebrating the diverse nature of our student body. We have Multi-Cultural days, support for pupils to practice their faith in school, an Inclusion Governor, assemblies celebrating a range of faiths, pupil-led clubs where their voice are heard.
Inclusive Teaching and Learning
We have regular reviews and audits of our subjects to ensure that our topics and resources reflect our student body and society as a whole. We empower staff to look objectively at their subjects and to challenge any stereotypes within. We also encourage first-hand experience from staff and students to be used within lessons where appropriate.
